Rays of light were swimming through my eyelids. My iris muscles started to contract to stop the rays from entering my pupils. I felt their fortitude. It was as much as my reluctance to wake up.
I slowly opened my eyes, and turned my head to the window. The sky was bright! In shock, my eyes opened big. There was a sudden rush of blood to my brains. I turned around and quickly searched for my watch.
I closed my eyes and breathed a sigh of relief. It was 4.30AM.
With all the rock climbing, soccer and gym this week, combined with yesterday's Kamikaze shots and Jagger Bomb at Grevey's, I totally passed out once I arrived home yesterday. In this condition, I guess I totally forgot that my lovely sister's birthday was yesterday.
I am still trying to get used to the summer at a high degree of latitude. Sunrise at 4.30AM and sunset at 8.30PM, the day just feels so long. And it doesn't give me the urgency to go to bed early. The art stays with me, and I am sure I will be battling with its aftereffects at work later.

Journey to the East
I must give credits to the Wright brothers for their great invention, but I have never really enjoyed flying. And on May 25th, it was one of the worst flight experience I have had. Nonetheless, and most importantly, I arrived safe and sound.
It all started when I was 2 minutes late to my United Airlines flight's latest check-in time, which, I did not know, was 30 minutes before the departure time. As a result, I had to pay $100 from my own pocket to catch the next flight. And instead of taking a non-stop flight and arriving at Washington Dulles International Airport at 3.55PM, I was then scheduled for a stopover in Denver, Colorado and to arrive at my final destination at around 7PM.
The Tucson-Denver flight was dreadful. There were so many instances of turbulence that it was the first time I've had airsickness. I was holding the airsickness bag and could have thrown up had the flight stayed in the air for another 5 minutes.
When I arrived at the Denver airport, there were bad news and good news. Bad news was that my flight to the final destination had been delayed by more than 2 hours. Hence, that meant that my arrival wouldn't take place until after 9PM. That had totally ruined my plan to visit some attractions in Washington, DC. Good news, was that I got to see some interesting things at the airport. The first was the game booths, at which we can pay and play games such as World of Warcraft and Halo. Then, I started seeing signs around the airport that says "Tornado Shelter". Apparently, they get so many tornadoes in the Midwest that they have places within each building that is technically safe to stay at in cases of tornado. Well, most interestingly, as shown in the picture below, there were many shoe polishing service sections in the airport. Shoe shine service in an airport?

Anyway, once arrived at the Washington Dulles International Airport, I was supposed to go to the Grand Hyatt Hotel to meet Gavin, who happened to be in DC for an after-graduation vacation with his family. I took an airport shuttle bus to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station, which is in DC. From there, I took a Metrorail subway to the Metro Center station, which is just in the basement of the hotel. Well, at least I got to go around the Chinatown in DC and had my dinner there.
Next morning, I took a 20-minute subway ride to where my internship is - Fairfax, Virginia.
Alright, that was a recap of my journey to the East coast, and I know it is a freaking long-winded one.

Two Days From Now
Two days from now, I will be embarking upon a new phase of my life - marriage. Just kidding :p
Well, no one likes changes. But two and a half years ago, a 20-hour flight that I boarded brought me to the only country on earth where a lost navigator could be considered as a hero. Christopher Columbus, despite his failure to find some Indian spices for his country, has been a hero to Americans for more than 400 years.
That was an aside. But I think Mr. Columbus would empathize with me for the cultural shock and changes I felt.
More changes await me. Two days from now, I will be flying from the Southwest end of this country to the Northeast end. More precisely, I will be having an internship in Fairfax, Virginia for three months. Virginia? Don't ask me, I have never been to the East coast. But click here to see where I will be flying from and flying to.
I will be landing in Washington, D.C., the capital, and possibly the safest place, of this country. After spending a night in D.C., I will then take a cab or some sort of public transportation to Fairfax, which is about 30 minutes drive away from D.C. What's next? Next, that's my home for three months.
Aha, new place, new people, new job, new everything, again. Sigh... Can't wait though, it is gonna be interesting. But, what the hell, how am I supposed to go to work with my insomnia?

The birds are chirping again...
No, they are not chirping about the sunrise today. They sound different. They don't sound as cheerful as they used to be. In fact, there is even a tone of gloominess and sadness in their chirps.
A messenger bird has arrived from the Far East. They now know about the disasters that happened in Asia over the past weeks. No, it is neither the shortage of rice, nor the V.K. Lingam video tape scandal. They, too, now feel the sorrow of the tens of thousands of people whose lives have been ravaged by Cylone Nargis and, most recently, the earthquake in China.
Not only have these victims lost many of their loved ones, they still live their every day in fear and sorrow. They are deprived of a safe shelter, food nutritions and, most importantly, clean water. They are trying hard to believe that there is a better tomorrow.
I think the birds will sound slightly relieved when the sun sets from their sight, for they know, a sunset here will bring a sunrise and a brighter brand new day to the victims.
Friends, if you wish to leave a comment, please make it a wish or a prayer for the victims. Let us hope that they will stay strong and move on amidst the chaos they do not deserve.

Na... what?
I heard the birds again. "Check out the sunrise, bitches," "Oh hell yeah what a wonderful morning," I assumed these were what they chirped about to each other.
"Almost time to sleep," I muttered to myself. I stood up and looked out the window. Out of no where, my mouth mumbled, "Nasi Lemak..."
Na... what? Nasi Lemak! I grinned, and thought, "Maybe I will taste it in my dreams."
I continued to study for my finals. It felt like 3 years ago, when I was also studying for finals until the wee hours of the morning. One difference, is that I was in Malaysia. That leads to another difference, my friends and I would stop studying at 6am. Why? Haha, we drove to this tiny roadside stall to buy Nasi Lemak.
Oh well, anyone wants to make me some Nasi Lemak?

Resurrection of My Blog
Beams of sunlight are irradiating through my window blinds. The early birds are chirping away and enjoying the preys. Here I am at 7AM, still awake, and decided to start blogging again.
Well, as you most probably wouldn't know, I had written blogs before. I never thought anyone would bother or care to read what I wrote at all. I guess I was wrong, at least one did. I was chatting with a friend today and she actually remembers what I wrote before. Impressed, and surely touched. "Share...", she urged. I guess she was right, my personal blog is probably where I share my thoughts to my family and friends. And it is probably where my family and friends get a first-hand news about how I am doing here. So here it is, Chrys, here I am sharing, again ;)
Two finals on Friday and I'll be done for the semester. For those of you who are taking finals, good luck. For those of you who are graduating, keep in touch. And to Chrys, I hope you make it to the final 12. Alright, time to end my insomnia. My last line of the post - if you read a personal blog, post a comment, it shows that you care - you better get what I am trying to imply! wtf just kidding :p
