It all started when I was 2 minutes late to my United Airlines flight's latest check-in time, which, I did not know, was 30 minutes before the departure time. As a result, I had to pay $100 from my own pocket to catch the next flight. And instead of taking a non-stop flight and arriving at Washington Dulles International Airport at 3.55PM, I was then scheduled for a stopover in Denver, Colorado and to arrive at my final destination at around 7PM.
The Tucson-Denver flight was dreadful. There were so many instances of turbulence that it was the first time I've had airsickness. I was holding the airsickness bag and could have thrown up had the flight stayed in the air for another 5 minutes.
When I arrived at the Denver airport, there were bad news and good news. Bad news was that my flight to the final destination had been delayed by more than 2 hours. Hence, that meant that my arrival wouldn't take place until after 9PM. That had totally ruined my plan to visit some attractions in Washington, DC. Good news, was that I got to see some interesting things at the airport. The first was the game booths, at which we can pay and play games such as World of Warcraft and Halo. Then, I started seeing signs around the airport that says "Tornado Shelter". Apparently, they get so many tornadoes in the Midwest that they have places within each building that is technically safe to stay at in cases of tornado. Well, most interestingly, as shown in the picture below, there were many shoe polishing service sections in the airport. Shoe shine service in an airport?
Anyway, once arrived at the Washington Dulles International Airport, I was supposed to go to the Grand Hyatt Hotel to meet Gavin, who happened to be in DC for an after-graduation vacation with his family. I took an airport shuttle bus to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station, which is in DC. From there, I took a Metrorail subway to the Metro Center station, which is just in the basement of the hotel. Well, at least I got to go around the Chinatown in DC and had my dinner there.
Next morning, I took a 20-minute subway ride to where my internship is - Fairfax, Virginia.
Alright, that was a recap of my journey to the East coast, and I know it is a freaking long-winded one.
